Proposed Georgia initiative · Seeking partners
Practical environmental education, local leadership,
and community-led action for healthier, cleaner,
and more sustainable neighborhoods.
Proposed 12-month pilot serving DeKalb and Gwinnett
Counties, Georgia.
The opportunity
Turning environmental awareness into everyday action
Families and neighborhoods benefit when environmental
information becomes practical knowledge they can use,
share, and sustain.
Healthy Environments, Healthy Communities is a proposed
Humanity & Health Foundation (HHF) initiative designed
to make environmental education accessible, affordable,
and relevant to everyday life in DeKalb and Gwinnett
Counties.
Working with residents and local organizations, HHF plans
to combine interactive learning, preparation of community
ambassadors, and modest environmental-action activities.
Specific locations and activities will be shaped by
community input and confirmed partnerships.
Our proposed approach
Learn → Practice → Lead → Act
Four connected activities will help participants apply
new knowledge and reinforce it through local leadership
and collective action.
Learn
Join practical environmental-health and sustainable-living
workshops grounded in locally relevant topics.
Practice
Identify affordable household steps involving waste
reduction, resource conservation, and environmental
safety.
Lead
Prepare Community Sustainability Ambassadors to share
practical knowledge through their own networks.
Act
Support locally selected environmental-action activities
that put learning into practice and strengthen shared
stewardship.
What participants will explore
Practical topics, adapted to community priorities
Final workshop topics will be selected with local partners
and community members. Potential topics include:
Everyday sustainability
- Waste reduction and responsible recycling
- Affordable household resource conservation
- Reducing unnecessary consumption and reusing materials
Environmental health and resilience
- Household environmental risks and indoor environmental
quality - Practical preparedness for extreme heat and other local
environmental stressors - Community environmental stewardship and local action

community advocates able to advise on needs, connect
with residents, or contribute expertise.

Responsible delivery
Community input, measurable learning,
accountable implementation
HHF plans to work with community partners to finalize
workshop locations, adapt materials to participant needs,
provide appropriate language-access support where feasible,
and document what participants learn and apply.
The proposed initiative builds on HHF’s wider sustainability
and community-engagement work, including its Sustainable
Living Ambassador and Community Clean Up programs.
Activities will follow HHF’s organizational expectations
for ethics, safeguarding, partnership, and accountability.
HHF will use attendance records, short learning assessments,
feedback, and follow-up questions to review results and
refine the model for future community use.
