For the Jean-Baptiste family, life in Les Cayes, Haiti, was already challenging, but when a Category 4 hurricane struck, their world was turned upside down. The powerful storm destroyed their home, swept away their belongings, and left them with nowhere to go.
“The winds howled, and the walls shook. Then, everything collapsed,” recalls Marie Jean-Baptiste, a mother of three. “We barely escaped with our lives. By morning, we had nothing, no food, no shelter, just the clothes on our backs.”
